Their Story
"OSEA was founded in 1996, but our story began over a century ago. My grandmother Elsa was a great believer in the power of the sea. When she was 44 years old, Elsa had a terrible fall, injuring her leg and leaving her bedridden. One night, a message came to her in a dream: The ocean will heal you. The next morning, she asked her husband to take her to the Long Island Sound and carry her into the water. She returned again the next day. And the next. Elsa swam in the frigid waters every day for weeks, and the dream became prophecy: Her leg healed.
When I had a family of my own, I raised my children in an intentional community. We lived close to the sea, always in connection with nature. At the time, almost everything in the skincare world seemed to be made with artificial fragrances, dyes and synthetic ingredients, and none of it worked very well. I knew I could do better.
We moved to Southern California, never straying far from the ocean. Borrowing from my grandmother’s wisdom and connection to the sea, I started mixing my own formulas. That is how OSEA was born.
Today it’s called clean beauty, but in our family, it is what it has always been: a simple, holistic philosophy that borrows from the things we cherish most—our ocean, our planet. OSEA was born of the idea that the ocean should be part of everyone’s life—and the conviction that it already is."

Skincare From The Sea
In the 1980s, almost everything in the skincare world seemed to be made with artificial fragrances, dyes and synthetic ingredients, and none of it worked very well. Jenefer knew she could do better.
Borrowing from her grandmother’s wisdom and connection to the sea, she started mixing her own formulas. She used salts, clay, essential oils and became increasingly interested in the healing properties of seaweed, filling her bathtub with all sorts of kelp and tapping into some of the secrets the ocean held. It was from those bathtubs that OSEA was born.
They fill their products with the very best of what nature provides. For twenty five years, they've done it without artificial colors or dyes or questionable, synthetic ingredients. That is the ethos of OSEA and they pour it into every bottle and jar.
