How long have you been at Carriage House?

I’ve been with Carriage House a little over three years.

How do you help clients build a wardrobe?

When helping a client build her wardrobe I select pieces that reflect her personality and lifestyle, but that will also work interchangeably with pieces already in her closet.

When she’s just beginning to build her wardrobe I advise her to start with a neutral base - black, white and beige. This creates a strong foundation of versatile pieces. Next, we begin to bring in color - specifically accent pieces in shades complementary to them. Finally, we begin building small capsules within their wardrobe for specific areas in their lives - workwear, leisure, special occasions - we start small and build deliberately so each piece is important and utilized.

What is your specialty?

Everyone has a part of their body they are not particularly fond of - they want to avoid drawing any attention to it. So, the very first thing I like to find out from a new client is the feature they DO love about themselves. Then I work in styles and silhouettes that help accentuate this feature.

What are a few style tips or rules you live by?

Always buy the best quality pieces for your budget. Quality - not quantity. Buy pieces that will last. A quality piece can serve you well for decades when properly cared for.

Also, Confidence is key! You should always feel confident in your clothing, no matter what you are wearing. If you don’t feel confident in an outfit, it shows. It doesn’t matter if everyone else thinks you look great, if you don’t feel it, don’t wear it.

Any favorite trends for Fall ‘20?

Colored leather pieces! This is one trend you’re safe investing in. Colored leather is fast becoming a new classic.

Any favorite style icons?

I love Diane von Furstenberg. I still have several of her iconic wrap dresses that I purchased many years ago. They’re just as relevant today as they were then. Timeless!

On a personal note...

“Over 30 years ago I began my retail training in bridal in Charleston, SC, and then Baton Rouge, LA. To this day I still love dressing the Mother-of-the-Bride or Groom. Not only for the BIG day but also for the many events leading up to and associated with the wedding. It gives me such joy when a mother-of feels beautiful and confident on that special day.”
